Over the last few days I've been redesigning and relaunching Host2ls.com Free No Ad Web Hosting. I've added more Disk space and more Bandwidth so take a minute and check it out. OK here's what I'm going to do this month just to check out any sort of response I'll get from it. This is a Comment Post contest, Very simple I want to get more of my visitors commenting on my posts so I've come up with a fun win-win way to do it.

I get a lot of traffic from other Blogs and from Blog Explosion. Free2ls.com is hosted on blogger but with a custom template. It is my nature that when I get into something I like to dig into it, rip it apart and figure out the inner workings.
That was why I started Free2ls.com, For many years I didn't have a credit card so most of the item's that people normally pay for I would try to source out an alternative and ended up amassing an enormous collection of links and mini-reviews I would make along the way for my own use. Time, Effort and research really do pay off.
That's beside the point. One thing I've heard many times while researching SEO optimization is that you need to have a good page title and your blog posts headings need to be keyword targeted.
One problem with Blogger is that the Default settings always show your page title first. Which is not proper and will penalize your search engine rankings. If you have a blog it should always have the post title followed by the page title not the other way around.
So I looked around and found a little hack that solves this problem and should help increase your rankings by displaying your posts properly.
I found this hack and tested it, It works fine and you should have no problem. it's very easy to implement and should be a snap.
Important: Remember to always backup your template before you edit anything in blogger.
First login to your Blogger dashboard, Select Layout = Edit Html " Remember to download your template"
Search for this line of code in the first paragraph of the Template.
<title><data:blog.pagetitle/></title>
Replace that entire line with.
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "index"'>
<title><data:blog.title/></title>
<b:else/>
<title><data:blog.pageName/></title>

There you have it, Your posts should now display properly!

Freeware Download At Bottom!
I am constantly amazed by the amount of people who read this blog and who don't post. Anytime you are at another blog and have the opportunity to post you should always do so and here's why. Having your link on other Blogs or Websites is important for 2 reasons. First visitors to that site who read your comment may click on your link and come visit your site and secondly having your link on many sites will increase your relevancy and page ranking in the search engines.
I find it funny that lots of folks will take the time to send me an email saying " Hey great site would you like to trade links. " When if they just posted a comment on the post itself their link would be there anyway.
One common mistake that a lot of people make is to just say something like " Great Post " and just leave their URL bad idea, Most blog and website owners are a little more savvy than that and can see right through it that all you want is to get link out there.
I'm always on the lookout for the opportunity to post on someone Else's blog and usually try to do at least 10 or so a day. I usually give a quick scan of the article or post if it's good then I read the whole thing, if not I just pick out the major points and then make a post.
When you post a comment on someones blog here's a couple ideas.
1) Compliment something specific about the post " Everyone loves to have their ego stroked and it pretty much guarantees acceptance of your post. "
2) If you can add something to the post that the owner may have forgotten or just not known, You can also say " Hey thanks I usually try This and it works pretty good too." Now the benefit of this Is someone reading the comments may like whatever you have added to the conversation and come to your blog or website.
3) Leave a link, Whats the point if you don't leave you link to be spidered and visitors to follow.

Do the free Traffic Exchanges deliver as promised? Well to be honest I'd have to say somewhat. Why? Even though you can get your site out there the Quality of visitors is just not very good. If you're planning on promoting a sales type of page or want someone to read your blog or website these are not the place to do it.
What they can do is if you create a splash page that will attract the surfers attention and get them to open up a new window or part with their email address then that's the way to do it.
So here's how the last 24 hours has gone since I created my Splash page " you can see it Here."
One of the things I like most about Traffic-Splash " Besides the great bonuses " Is that there is a Free Site Rotator you can use. It's very simple just put in your list of pages you want displayed and it will rotate them along with an advertising bar on top with your referral link embedded in,
"You can see an example of mine Here " I'm running my main splash page as well as two splash pages advertising the other exchanges for 33% showing of a different page per each display , I ran the rotator on 2 other exchanges Easyhits4u and StartXchange and just a regular link at Traffic-Splash.
Here's whats happened in the last 24 hours, I've gotten several new sign-ups at Host2ls.com, I've gotten 2 sign-ups at Easyhits4u, 2 at Traffic-splash and 1 at another site I surf and was in one of my other rotators called DragonSurf. Referrals are a great way to build your exchange downline, You get a percentage of sales and clicks for each user you refer.
If you use the Exchanges to your advantage then yes they can work for you quite well but just like anything else don't expect miracles and be prepared to work at it.
Remember, If you join any of the exchanges under my Referral link I'll do my best to help you out like giving extra impressions and mentoring on the Exchanges. TIP: To maximize your displays on the Surf Exchanges, Tab your browser and open 3 or 4 exchanges at a time. Then as your surfing the net or working on your site or blog you can tab back and forth between them and click for maximum credits.

OK so you've signed up at the Free Traffic Exchanges listed in my last post. So now what do we do? Well it's entirely up to you, You can simply list your blog or website and surf the exchanges or you can learn to do it a little better.
The first thing you need to remember is that most people who are surfing the exchanges are just like you and me. They have busy schedules so they set aside an hour or so to surf and that's it. Regardless of how nice your website is and what it has to offer most people will just glance at it for the 15 to 30 second timer and move on. The trick is to get them to want to bookmark your site or to open it in a new window to view later.
The exchange we'll focus on today is Traffic-Splash if you haven't signed up yet then please do so now.

My goal at Traffic splash today was to get people to sign-up for my Free No Ad hosting at Host2ls.com " Have a look and as you can see it's just a plain straight forward page that is designed for someone who's already looking for hosting, So lite on fluff."
Showing just that page on the TE's has gotten me a couple sign-ups but not to many because as I said most people are surfing with a limited amount of time and really don't read a lot.
The first thing I did was to design a page that is focused on the surfers that are clicking through traffic splash already. It's meant to be flashy, easy to read and quick to the point.
Let's go through the steps I used in setting up this page and the criteria I was looking to meet before we have a look at it.
1) I need to have a banner and text link exchange running so I can maximize the potential of the page being seen " why limit myself, the banners and links will show on all pages on my site." each impression for the exchange also gives my banner and text link impressions elsewhere. " NOTE - the text links are not there yet as I was not approved before writing this, I will add them when I am approved."
2) Make a somewhat generic splash page that is flashy and attention getting but still short and to the point.
3) Let the surfer know that clicking my link will open a new window and not take them away from their surfing.
4) Place my Affiliate links for other Exchanges I surf. May as well advertise them to people who I know are already surfing the TE's anyways.
5) Place a Stats program on the page so I can track it's effectiveness. It's all about conversions and a stat program will tell you how well that page is working. I always like to know how many sign-ups per page I'm getting.
6) You can take a look at the finished page HERE. " While your there sign-up for Free No Ad hosting to host your new splash pages" Now I'll track it for a few days or so to figure out my conversion ratio which will help me decide whether to keep or redesign it!

So How are you going to get Traffic to your new website or blog? Simply placing your website or blog on the Internet and submitting it to the search engines is not going to get you very much traffic anytime soon. That doesn't mean it won't happen, It just means that it takes some time and effort on your part. That's where the traffic exchanges can play a role if you choose. Personally I use them and I get a fair amount of free traffic from them. While I don't believe it's always as productive as other sources there are ways to make the exchanges work for you and develop quite productive traffic as a result.
A quick primer on what a traffic exchange is. It is a service where you surf other sites anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds and in return your site is displayed to other users for the same amount of time. The more exchanges you surf and the more sites you see the more your site is seen.
The reason I like them is because in the beginning it's very hard to get traffic to your site, Setting up web-rings, Banner/link exchanges are great but if your site is not getting any visitors then it won't work for you.
( I'll be starting a detailed course on maximizing Traffic Exchange hits tomorrow with step by step instructions on how you can get the most from TE's and I'll be implementing those strategies here as well each day )
My normal plan to get quick traffic is setup 1 banner exchange and a couple link exchanges on my site where I have a return of say every 10 times the banner or links are rotated on my site I get mine shown 9 times on other sites in return.
I have 5 or 6 exchanges that I've surfed over time and found to be the most productive. I open them up in tabbed browsing and surf for an hour or so each night bringing me 600 or so hits a day. Which gets my banner & links shown around 1600 hundred times on other sites! a lot of the exchange surfers will not read your site right away but if they like it will bookmark and come back, Bookmarks are very valuable and worth seeking out. There are many other benefits as well and we'll lay those out over the coming days of the course.

Getting Traffic is one of the hardest parts of being a website owner. whether you're trading links with other websites or buying google AdWords to try to get google traffic. One of the things you absolutely must do is submit your websites to the search engines, Having your listing on google is great but there are many more search engines out there that are a potential traffic source for your site. As I've said many times before " being a webmaster is a lot of work and requires time, effort and patience". I'll be doing a few more articles during the next couple weeks on getting traffic for your site but for today we'll focus on getting listed in the top search engines " I'm also developing a companion webmaster site to go with this blog that has a list of hundreds of search engines to submit to."
You can always try one of those So-called Free search engines submission sites which are all over the net. Submit your site to the top 20 search engines but I don't know a single webmaster who would dare use one of these programs. All the search engine submission forms are different and manual submission is the way to go. besides now allot of the SE's require you do but an text from an image code in the box to stop the autolisters.
Google -- Usually list your site very quickly " under a week" easy to get listed.

Yahoo -- Yahoo is the GrandDaddy of the search engine's. Unless your site is strictly commercial you should be able to get listed easily. Be patient it may take a while.

I was trying to figure out what I wanted to write about tonight? I have a ton of potential articles in mind I just kind of figure it out as I go along and write about what interest me at the moment.
One thing that I have been checking on a consistent basis is the Google Webmaster Toolkit so that I can find any reasons why my site might rank lower or any errors that I have yet to discover.
And that got me to thinking that whether you like google or not, As website owners we all have a common goal and that is to rank as high in google searches as we possibly can. The reason is they are the biggest search engine on the Internet and designing your site and optimizing your links for google is just a good idea.
The google webmaster toolkit is filled full of useful information telling you all about the google bot and what it found while searching your site such as.
1. Http errors
2. Not found urls -- "dead links"
3. Timed out urls-- "it's there just not responding"
There are a few more options and all are good and worth a look. A little study time finding out any potential errors that may be found on your site is time well spent.
One of the best features I've found and like the best in the Toolkit is under the links section. There you will find.
1. External links -- "Showing you who's linking to what page on your site"
2. Internal links -- "Shows links within your site and the pages they link to"
3. Site links -- " Extra site navigation links google is listing to"
All the link tools are great and can help you find out some very important info for example, Say you've decided to change a page and it's name.html. Using the toolkit you can find out before hand who is linking to that page and links on your own site that need to be changed. Other webmasters and sites you never knew about may have linked to some article or piece or information you've written and just like that you've cut off a valuable traffic source and an important external link to your site.
Another resource I use once in awhile is the Bad Neighborhood Detector tool. It's a great little tool that searches the page you input and finds links on your site and searches the pages they link to. It points out any objectionable links, Content, Not found errors and Redirects that may penalize your site in search engines. It's interesting to find that a site you are linking to has a link to adult content, Pharmacy or Gambling websites which have traditionally been spam content and can potentially negatively affect your rankings.
So in the end it pays to do a little research and find some of the errors you never knew were there and save yourself some time and frustration.

So now that you have your shiny new .com it's time to build a website. I don't know about all of you but unless your a professional web developer who wants to create something new or want to develop your site from scratch. A free website template is a great place to start " why try to reinvent the wheel" there are plenty of site's available for you to download Free templates.
There are many options for templates, We are going to focus here on CSS templates. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are for use with html and xml websites that basically add presentation and style to your website cleaning up your design and coding.
Here are a couple reviews of my Favorite places for Free Templates, Enjoy.
freecsstemplates.org is one of my favorites, Very stripped down basic site design that's very easy to use, download and navigate.
1. Only 367, But a nice selection of elegant and easy to use templates.
2. May be used for personal and commercial purposes under the creative commons license.
3. Fast loading lightweight templates.
4. Each template has a preview that expands into a live website so you can see what your site will look like on the Internet.
Freecsstemplates.org has many options and is worth a look.
Freewebtemplates.com is another great site that has many options.
1. A huge 5102 templates, Great selection with some real gems but a lot of duds as well but it's worth your time to have a look through them.
2. Usage and license terms are explained in the zips and are reasonable.
3. No preview but there is a large picture preview of all the templates.
Freewebtemplates.com is a great site with a ton of features and templates.
Freewebsitetemplates.com is my Absolute favorite.
1. Small selection of less than 100, But if you can customize them a bit they are beautiful and well worth the effort.
2. May be used for any purpose, no license required. no strings attached.
3. Great templates with great style and all are very elegant and feature rich.
4. Full site preview and downloading is a snap.
Freewebsitetemplates.com is a great site with a limited quantity, But the templates they do offer are among the best free ones I have seen.
So there you have it, Just a small list for today " I'm getting tired and must sleep" but with the ones I've listed you should have enough to find the perfect template for your website. I'll review a few more in another article later in the week.

While you may think your website layout, content and ads are 100% perfect, With detailed analysis you get to see and surf your site the way your users do. Figuring out what works and what doesn't. You can optimize your site to make the most out of your visitors and the most out of the ads you are promoting. Because after all, we are all here to make money!
If you are also running your own advertisements such as AdWords goggle analytics is an invaluable and must have resource.
Learn what ads are bringing you traffic and which ones are converting, This alone will save you a ton of money. You'll only spend your valuable advertising dollars where and how works best for your website.
Implementation is a snap as you only need a small snippet of Javascript code inserted before the body of your page and your ready to go.
Best of all it is Free, Powerful and feature rich and no serious website owner can do without it.
All you need is a Google email address and you are setup and ready to go. So do yourself a favor and check it out for yourself!
